Frequently asked questions

  • During our first session, I will ask you about your reasons for seeking treatment and gather details about your background. We may talk about your career, education, relationships, and other aspects of your life, as well as your mental health and medical history. By learning more about and understanding your needs, I will be better able to assess if my expertise is the best fit to support you. I am able to offer resources and referrals to assist you further if needed.

  • Following our first meeting, individual therapy sessions are about 55 minutes in length and may vary in format depending on your needs. Clients are the experts of their own lived experience, so I may encourage you to take the lead in addressing your concerns each session. Throughout our time together, I utilize transparency, humor, and an open dialogue to actively participate.

  • When starting out, most people benefit from regular, weekly sessions, as it can help you to explore in a meaningful way and ensure a flow that helps us to build trust and understanding. Therapy is an investment in your wellness. Each person has different needs, and we will meet depending on the goals we work on together while tailoring care to support you.

  • Everything you share in our sessions is confidential, and I will not disclose information unless you request that I share your information. Additionally, if there is an issue of safety, in which I assess that you may be at a risk of harming yourself or someone else, or you disclose information regarding child or elder abuse, I will need to make these exceptions to disclose for safety purposes. If a court subpoenas my records, I will also need to make an exception in confidentiality. I can share more of this information in the informed consent form that you will receive before we meet.

  • Therapy is an investment in yourself and your growth. I understand this is a commitment that impacts you financially and with your time, and I aim to provide the best quality care through our work together.

My current fees are $200 for the initial intake evaluation, $180 for individual counseling sessions, and $200 for couples.

Please note that if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please provide at least 24 hours’ advance notice to avoid a late cancellation fee.

  • Yes, I accept most Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) and Aetna plans. If you're unsure whether your specific plan is accepted, please contact your insurance provider for confirmation. Additionally, feel free to reach out to me with any questions about payment options or to discuss your insurance coverage.

I am considered an out-of-network provider for other insurance carriers. If your insurance company offers out-of-network benefits, you may be eligible for reimbursement for my services. I can supply the required documentation (a "Superbill") to facilitate reimbursement for your sessions.

  • Contact the number listed on your health insurance card and request to speak with “member services.” When you do, ask the following questions to confirm your out-of-network coverage:

Do I have coverage for mental health services via telehealth with out-of-network providers?

What is my annual deductible, and how much of it have I met so far?

How many therapy sessions does my plan cover annually?

What is the reimbursement rate for out-of-network providers for CPT codes 90834 and 90837?

Does my plan cover Z codes for couples therapy?

What is my co-payment, if applicable?

Do I need prior authorization for these services?

Is approval from my primary care provider required?

What is the home and mailing address on my file to ensure checks are sent to the correct address?

How do I submit a superbill, and is there an online portal available, or must I mail or fax it?

What is the deadline for submitting a superbill?

*CPT codes denote specific services received. CPT code 90834 refers to a 45-minute clinical session, while 90837 refers to a 60-minute clinical session (typically 53 minutes to include documentation time), with a modifier (95) indicating teletherapy.

*Z codes are often not covered by insurance and include issues like Employment and Unemployment (Z56) Z56.0, Housing and Economic Circumstances (Z59) Z59.0, and Relationship Problems with Spouse or Partner Z63.0. Therefore, couples therapy is typically not covered, but you should verify your specific out-of-network benefits with your insurance provider.
